My second book of poetry, Upon Life's Journey.
A collection of poetry divided into five sections: Origins & Space; Nature & Camping; Structured Poems; Life & Social Commentary; and Thought, Reality, & Stream of Consciousness. Inspired by the everyday, the ephemeral, and the ethereal.
LIGHT A CANDLE (from Life & Social Commentary in Upon Life's Journey)
In the darkness, we seek light.
We don't always find it.
Infernos of injustice blaze with intensity
in a world tepid to take note
of that which lies beyond our immediate boundaries,
our petty concerns.
Lost in our own sea of woes,
the minutiae that encompasses our narrow view,
how easy to turn a blind eye on issues
that feel so far removed,
even those that should give us pause
for in truth, they ultimately dictate our future.
Wars rage in the distance,
crimes against humanity mount upon layers of indifference,
profit razes nature's balance as the world falls into decline.
Deforestation erodes renewal
and wildfires scour the landscape,
cursing wildlife into a retreat they cannot find,
for humanity has stolen their homes
in an ever-increasing expansion of dominion,
choosing to slaughter the perceived incursion
of fauna into human realms
rather than share a land not solely our own.
Storms rage in increased fury,
winds howl and rains lash,
drowning the land in mud and blood,
and still we press on in ignorant insistence
that larger problems of this world we call home
do not concern us in our little bubble.
How can our paltry individual efforts affect another life,
another town,
another nation,
a whole planet?
Why should we put ourselves out
to think of the needs of another
when our own loom large enough to blind?
Instead, we sit quietly
even as we reminisce on better days.
Easier to concern ourselves only with individual problems,
the tiny speck of the Earth that we call our own,
that we believe we have some right to claim.
And yet we yearn for that spark of light in the darkness,
if we could but find the courage to fan it to life.
To unite against injustice of every form,
to be the light that forces the bleakness of night away,
pit the good of all futures against transitory gain,
push past the chains of profit
to gain immeasurable benefit that lasts far beyond the now.
One candle held strong can become a beacon;
ten can start to line a path;
thousands can illuminate oppression.
What will billions do?
Fantasy books offer a wonderful escape from the everyday, and I have 6 to choose from.
If you enjoy a tale with a mythological flair, where ancient gods have a direct influence on human life, look no further than god-touched.
If you enjoy a tale with a mythological flair, where ancient gods have a direct influence on human life, look no further than god-touched.
If epic quests are your thing, consider joining half-elf Karen and her companions in a fight against dark forces in Druid's Daughter. But be prepared to embrace your own inner darkness if you want to win through.
Or join the humble mountaineer Geret, who unexpectedly finds himself guardian to an ancient power, hunted by tyrannical wizards bent of making the world into their own personal playground. Spirit of the Stone sweeps across nations and political boundaries rife with the horrors of war.

Perhaps world-hopping fantasy catches your interest. Join Angie, a woman of earth, as she discovers her dream world truly exists, and learn about her unique magic at her side before war destroys what she yearns to protect in In Dreams We Live.
And if you want a duology that involves a shy librarian who discovers and tries to thwart a terrible spell that erases all memory of her king (The Forgotten King), followed by a discovery of forgotten magic that will change the course of entire kingdoms (The Forgotten Magic), give The Forgotten books a try.
For a different experience that covers snippets of silliness and explores deeper truths and far-ranging thoughts in a variety of poetical forms, dive into Dancing Waves, my first book of poetry.
